Council Members

Simon Read

I have lived in Pickmere for about 19 years and have been a parish councillor for 8 years. I initially moved here to get back into the countryside but found I didn’t want to leave. I have been heavily involved in the village, with the aim of enhancing the community. I have volunteered to help with Pickmere Community Group since arriving and have been actively supporting its activities ever since, including bringing in new ideas such as the organised litter picks, setting up the AEDs and setting up the Covid support group. I joined the Parish Council to continue trying to make a difference to the parish and its residents. Although the council has limited powers, I do believe we can make a difference to our local community. I also believe it is important to communicate and I’m always happy to talk. Professionally, I am a teacher and I set up and now run one of the biggest Duke of Edinburgh groups in the country. I am also a qualified first aid instructor. In my spare time I am a rugby fan, an avid walker and a scuba diver. I have a long-suffering wife, 2 teenage daughters and a collection of very spoilt pets.
