REPORT TO PICKMERE PARISH COUNCIL
20th July 2021
AGENDA ITEM 9.2 PICKMERE LAKE MULTI-AGENCY MEETING AND OTHER MATTERS RELATING
TO LAKE VISITOR ISSUES
1 REPORT
1.1 Members are aware of the efforts that your Council made last year to secure a multi-agency
meeting including stakeholders from both sides of the CEC/CWAC/Wincham/Pickmere
boundary in order to discuss how the problems of large numbers of visitors to the lake might
be mitigated. In the event, representatives of your Council attended an online meeting of the
CWAC/Wincham stakeholders, but so far as the CEC/Pickmere stakeholders were concerned it
was not possible to hold a single co-ordinated meeting, although discussions were held with
individual bodies, such as the Police (Knutsford Division) and CEC, and this resulted in some
improvement in how the subsequent issues were dealt with.
1.2 The Police (Knutsford Division) undertook earlier this Spring to seek to organise a further
comprehensive meeting, following the carrying out of a sample survey of residents local to the
lake, but the results of this survey have not yet been published and the meeting has not yet
come to pass. However, the CWAC/Wincham/Police (Northwich Division) managed to arrange
a meeting which took place on Monday evening 5th July.
1.3 Your Chair and your Clerk attended this meeting and will report back on its results.
1.4 Separately, your Chair has suggested that it may be desirable to issue a parish-wide
questionnaire survey about the visitor parking problems relating to the lake. This idea may or
may not be appropriate bearing in mind the above, but this can be considered in the context of
this item. A draft of potential questions is attached as an appendix to this report.
1.5 Finally, the question of providing a large commercial refuse bin at the IROS during summer
months has been explored and two quotations received. These are detailed at item 10.1 on the
private agenda.
2. RECOMMENDATION
2.1 That the report be noted.
2.2 That consideration be given to the carrying out of a parish-wide survey to ascertain residents’
perceptions of the problems caused by visitors to the lake, and to explore potential remedies.

Clerk to the Parish Council
