REPORT TO PICKMERE PARISH COUNCIL

1st March 2022

AGENDA ITEM 9.10 UPDATE – PROPOSED INSTALLATION OF BROADBAND

1. REPORT

1.1 A response has now been received from the Charities Buying Group as to the potential availability of the proposed SOGEA Broadband service to the VH.

1.2 Apparently the network has said that, because there are no physical lines routing to the Hall currently, they would need to install a new line, at a cost of £99.00 for a new line installation, with a subsequent recurring monthly line charge of £12.50. However the company could not guarantee that its Broadband service would be able to go live until the newly installed line was checked once it has been installed.

1.3 This was a similar stance to that of BT when enquiries were made as to BT installing Broadband.

1.4 Members are reminded that there is a phone line physically installed at the Hall, provided by the contractors who set up a temporary broadband service for the Cheshire Show in 2018. However it has been confirmed that since this line is disconnected, the £99 charge and subsequent rental would still be required.

1.5 In the light of these proposed additional charges, your Clerk is again reviewing the situation and in particular whether another provider may be more appropriate/economical.

2. RECOMMENDATION

2.1 That the report be noted.
